Job Description

Researches, designs, develops and/or modifies enterprise-wide systems and/or applications software.

1. Designs and codes software components, units, and modules that meet product specifications and development schedules.

2. Performs systems modeling, simulation, and analysis.

3. Tests and debugs assigned components and units.

4. Participates in large system and subsystem planning.

5. Collaborates with hardware engineers on machine characteristics that affect software systems and works with them to resolve incompatibilities.

6. Writes and updates technical documentation such as user manuals, system documentation, and training materials.

7. Troubleshoots problems and provides customer support for software operating systems and application issues.

8. Advises hardware engineers on machine characteristics that affect software systems, such as storage capacity, processing speed, and input/output requirements.

9. Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned.

10. Participates in special projects as required.

Position Description

The Application Virtualization Engineer, is a Tier 3 software engineer who is responsible for the virtualization, sequencing and troubleshooting of all application packages within the Enterprise. Virtualization technology includes: App-V 5, SCCM, App Volumes and FlexApp

Specific responsibilities include:

* Create, edit, upgrade, and customize App-V packaged sequences.

* Distribute App-V packages directly through use of the App-V client and corresponding SCCM mechanisms.

* Assist in supporting the agency's standard desktop hardware and software configuration.

* Work closely with the Technical support team in resolving various issues/problems with the inventory/packaged sequence distribution process.

* Develop procedures and documentation for inventory/packaged sequence distribution process.

* Evaluate new versions of AppV and related software for stability, reliability, performance and compatibility with the agency's existing environment.

* Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned.

* Participates in special projects as required.

* Prepares reports on analyses, findings, and project progress.

Education

Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work/military experience.

Qualifications

5-8 years of related software development experience.

5-8 years of directly related experience supporting Microsoft App-V; Microsoft SCCM; Citrix XenApp or VMware AppVolumes

Minimum Candidate Skills:

* Attention to detail, strong organizational skills.

* Strong writing skills

* Ability to follow a process and help to identify areas for process improvement.

* Experience using Windows 7 or Windows 10.

* Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (basic understanding)

Desired Candidate Skills:

* Experience creating, editing, upgrading and customizing existing App-V packaged sequences.

* Experience packaging and deploying applications via SCCM through the creation of package sequences in Microsoft App-V.

* Experience with App-V server installation, configuration, and maintenance.

* Experience scripting with a scripting language (prefer PowerShell)

* Experience with any other industry application virtualization software (Citrix XenApp, VMware ThinApp or AppVolumes)

* Certifications Preferred: Security+; MCSA: Windows Server 2012 or equivalent work experience.
