Job Description

Designs and defines system architecture for new or existing computer systems.

Tysons; Core Hours; Rate/level are upwardly flexible. Expertise with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL or CentOS Linux system administration. Experience engineering hardened baseline configurations for RHEL or CentOS operating systems and Oracle database platforms. Hands-on DevOps experience, such as provisioning Jenkins. Hands-on experience with AWS in our Customer environment.

-Demonstrated experience performing Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) or CentOS Linux system administration
-Demonstrated engineering experience developing hardened baseline configurations for RHEL or CentOS server operating systems and Oracle database platforms
-Demonstrated engineering experience developing modules or scripts to harden systems based on Center for Internet Security (CIS) benchmarks or similar standards
-Experience with at least one of the following: Continuous Code Automation (CCA) tools, Puppet, or Ansible
-Experience with version control tolls such as GitLab
-Experience provisioning Jenkins in a DevOps environment
-Demonstrated experience with AWS in our Customer environment

-Experience performing Oracle or Sun Solaris 10/11 system administration
-Experience with any of the following scripting languages: Bash, Perl, Puppet (Ruby), Curl, Python
-Experience performance tuning infrastructure components such as operating systems, application servers, or databases
-Experience building infrastructure using API, command line interfaces, or silent installation files
-Familiarity with automated provisioning technologies such as AWS CloudFormation, Puppet, Foreman, Ansible, or AWS Bootstrapping via scripts
-Experience engineering solutions to satisfy high availability and business continuity requirements
-Experience implementing and/or configuring Oracle 11g R2 or 12c DataGuard, Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) and Oracle VPD
-Experience implementing and/or configuring encryption in-transit and at-rest to meet Customer security requirements
-Experience facilitating and/or participating in Customer accreditation activities to achieve successful Authorization to Operate (ATO)

1. Performs complex systems development and design work that may include logic design, I/O design, firmware development, model formulation, manufacturing and development cost projections, computer architecture analysis and design, and analog or digital systems engineering.

2. Performs systems modeling, simulation, and analysis.

3. Reviews completion and implementation of system additions and/or enhancements and makes recommendations to management and/or clients.

4. Plans and directs upgrades of operating systems and designs systems enhancements.

5. Develops documentation on new or existing systems.

6. Develops and directs tests to ensure systems meet documented user requirements.

7. Identifies, analyzes, and resolves system problems.

8. Provides system/equipment/specialized training and technical guidance.

9. Determines system specifications, input/output processes, and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility.

10. Provides guidance and work leadership to less-experienced systems engineers and may have supervisory responsibilities.

11. Serves as liaison with clients, participating in meetings to ensure client needs are met.

12. Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned.

13. Participates in special projects as required.


Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work/military experience.


8-10 years of related systems engineering experience.
