Job Description

General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) is seeking an Intern - Program Analyst / Export Compliance to support the International Security Cooperation and Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program at the Washington Navy Yard in Southeast Washington D.C. Our offices are resident in our client's facility at the Washington Navy Yard.

Our ideal intern should attend a College/University local to this location and their schedule must allow a commitment of approximately 10 -15 hours a week. We have flexibility to accommodate student’s class schedules and anticipate the ability to employ during seasonal semester breaks to include summer employment with the potential for increased hours up to 40 per week during these periods.

GDIT supports the Department of Navy (DoN) and the Department of Defense (DoD) in the management of International Security Cooperation and Foreign Military Sales (FMS) by supporting various processes that authorize, acquire, track, deliver and account for materials sold or leased to international governments that enhance their respective defense capability and capacity while also enabling greater alignment and harmony with United States defense interests globally and in a particular region. Security Cooperation and FMS are critical elements of United States foreign policy and national defense strategy. The execution and management of FMS constitutes a multi-billion dollar business across over 80+ international client countries for the sale and lease of military weapons and maintenance and training services.

Interns will be expected to support various functional elements inherent in the various business processes under the direction of multiple managers with specific needs across principally defense acquisition and international agreements, foreign disclosure, technology controls and export release policy. The interns will learn skills and abilities connected with the compilation and analysis of data; development of decision making profiles; and the collaboration necessary to secure authority to proceed and execute.

This is a great opportunity for students working towards a degree in Public Administration, Political Science, International Affairs and general Business and Technical disciplines. Assignments will focus on various programmatic functions (planning, programming and budgeting) and the analysis and research of the law, regulation and policy associated with technology controls, export release, and international agreements.

Access to the office and supporting business systems requires a security clearance, thus initial consideration for the program will require the candidate be able to obtain a DoD Secret clearance, undergoing a background check and approval prior to beginning any paid efforts. U.S. Citizenship is required. The security adjudication process and background investigation can take up to 1 month to a year so the projected start date cannot be precisely determined until interim or final security clearance is provided.
