Job Description

Serves as a Sustainment functional expert, Collective Training Specialist, for a major Army Reserve Sustainment Command, reporting to GDIT project manager. Responsible for coordinating and assisting units with developing training and exercise plans for units within the sustainment functional area that adhere to established requirements. Coordinates with subordinate units and USARC's Training and Support Commands to ensure that sustainment unit specific training and exercise requirements and standards are understood. Specifically coordinates extensively with the 84th Training Command and subordinate divisions and down trace units to provide expert-level analytical and technical training support to sustainment units participating in Combat Support Training Program (CSTP) and various functional exercises. Provides input to staff on training management. Assists units in planning and organizing their training for ARFORGEN training rotations at Functional, Warrior and/or CSTX exercises; Combat Training Centers (CTC); Overseas Deployment Training (ODT) missions; etc. Drafts communication plans and operations orders paragraphs and annexes/appendices to support training exercises, as directed. Conducts coordination with post/training site agencies to ensure agencies are aware of training exercise requirements and assists in resolving any conflicts identified, prior to exercise execution, as directed. Participates as required in exercise planning conferences to assist in production or validation of training plans. Provides support and expertise in developing various sustainment related exercise products that will enhance training readiness of USAR units. Provide constructive advice on training validity and quality. Serves as the technical advisor to the government in assigned subject areas, recommending changes and identifying areas for further review. Writes and updates training and exercise related documentation including presentations, operations orders and training plans. Prepares briefings and staff actions for the G7. Works in a highly intense information technology (IT) environment required to maximize the use of military systems, programs and databases of record, DAMPS, DTMS, UTS, mission specific digital systems/tools, and other available IT assets in the conduct of mission support.


Bachelors Degree in a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work/military experience.


8-10 years of directly related experience in the development and delivery of technical military training and exercise programs and unit readiness analysis. Candidate possesses extensive experience in Army sustainment operations, training and exercise doctrine, especially with respect to reserve components. Demonstrated ability to work independently or under general direction. Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills. Candidate requires the type of experience normally found in an Active, Reserve or National Guard officer or senior noncommissioned officer. Candidate must possess the ability to gather data from a variety of sources, conduct analysis and integrate information into training and exercise related products, reports, briefings, executive summaries, white papers, diagrams, etc. and has the ability to present that information to staff.

Unique/Additional Requirements: Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret level security clearance. Advanced knowledge of the principles, methods, processes, and applicable regulations involved in supporting military operations. Knowledge includes an understanding of military training, doctrine, planning and, techniques and procedures (TTPs) and force structure in order to doctrinally incorporate training units into exercises or Culminating Training Events (CTE). Qualifications/competencies may include, but are not limited to: advanced knowledge of exercise scheduling and coordination; operations and training planning, scheduling and coordination; a proficient writer to draft training and exercise products, including OPORDs and appropriate Annexes/Appendices; knowledge of the principles, methods, processes and applicable regulations involved in supporting sustainment operations and knowledge of relevant technology and associated programs, applications, and the mission command systems on which they operate. Helpful program knowledge of some systems, but not required: FMS Web, UTS, MDIS, ARTIMS, JTIMS, ITRS. Microsoft Office skills including Access, PowerPoint, Word and Excel.
